01Why we exist

Important things are notalways the loudest things.

Some unfold slowly. Some sit underneath everyday life almost unnoticed. Others affect millions of people but disappear from attention as soon as the headlines move on. it's important. exists to look more closely.

We explore science, technology, health, society, the environment, infrastructure, culture, human progress and the ideas connecting them. We aim to understand what is happening, why it matters, what the evidence tells us and what may happen next.

Sometimes that means explaining a system. Sometimes it means following a project, examining an idea or returning to a subject that still deserves attention.

The subject can change. The question stays the same:

Why is this important?

02Principles

Six habits wetry not to break.

  • 01

    Context

    Understanding more than the headline.

  • 02

    Perspective

Seeing how subjects connect across places, systems and fields.

  • 03

    Curiosity

Asking better questions before reaching conclusions.

  • 04

    Evidence

Separating what is known, what is uncertain and what still needs to be understood.

  • 05

    Follow-through

Returning to important subjects when there is more to learn.

  • 06

    Humanity

Remembering that behind systems, statistics and events are people whose lives are affected by them.

03How we work

Our work beginswith a question.

We research the subject using credible sources, available data, specialist knowledge, documented experience and primary material wherever possible. We compare claims, look for context and make uncertainty clear rather than presenting assumptions as facts.

As it's important. grows, our work may also include original reporting, interviews, collaborations and direct observation. When that happens, we will distinguish clearly between what we have independently reported and what comes from external sources.

Projects and ongoing subjects may be revisited when meaningful developments occur. There is no artificial timetable: we return when there is something worth adding.

Our aim

Not to publish the most. To make what we publish worth understanding.

On support and partnerships

Commercial support does not determine our conclusions. Sponsored or partner-supported work is clearly identified.

04Method

From Questionto Impact

Our editorial process is built around five stages — from a clear question to a record we can return to when the picture changes.

From Question to Impact

  1. Stage 01

    Question

Define what we are actually trying to understand.

A surveyor measuring an eroded riverbank
    Output — a clear question
  2. Stage 02

    Research

Gather reliable sources, data, primary material and relevant perspectives.

A researcher walking beneath a radio telescope
Method — documented evidence and credible sources
  3. Stage 03

    Examine

Compare what is known, disputed, uncertain or missing.

A scale model of a green city district
    Output — context and evidence
  4. Stage 04

    Explain

Turn the research into something clear without removing important complexity.

An engineer testing a solar battery cabinet
Output — story, explainer or case study
  5. Stage 05

    Follow

Return when meaningful developments change the picture.

Macro view of leaf veins with water droplets
Cadence — when the story warrants it
05Where this can lead

Over time, we wantattention to lead to action.

it's important. began as an editorial and knowledge platform, but its purpose is broader than publishing.

That may mean supporting worthwhile projects, working with organisations doing meaningful work, helping raise awareness or resources, and eventually building initiatives that directly help people and communities in need.

  1. 01 · Now

    Understand.

Learn what is happening and why it matters.

  2. 02 · Next

    Pay attention.

Bring sustained attention to things that are overlooked.

  3. 03 · In time

    Act.

Where possible, help turn understanding and attention into something useful.

The long-term ambition is simple: to understand what matters, bring attention to it, and help where help is needed — regardless of place or subject. How that develops will be shaped carefully and transparently as the platform grows.
